The YLT is a strictly literal and idiomatic rendering of the Original Greek Texts.The Greek Text followed is that generally recognized as the 'Received Text,' or the 'Textus Receptus,' from which the King James Version was translated.

English Standard Version (ESV)The translators of this readable, modern Bible version have attempted to write what is, as much as possible,a “word for word” rendering of the text. The authors of the English Standard Version, ESV, published in 2001, view their work as a continuation in a long line of solid, true, and beautiful English versions of the Bible, beginning with the New Testament of William Tyndale in 1526. Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)The guiding principle behind the Holman Christian Standard Bible, or Holman CSB, or HCSB is neither word-for-word nor thought-for-thought translation, but a combination of the best of both principles called “optimal equivalence,” which seeks to convey the precise meaning of the original by the best means available in the language of the new version, with clarity and readability being high priorities.

Revised Version (RV)The Revised Version (RV) began in 1870 when almost 100 British and American scholars formed a committee to revise the King James Version Bible. The New Testament was completed in 1881, and the Old Testament followed in 1885. Further revisions were made in 1901, which became the American Standard Version (ASV).

American Standard Version (ASV)This translation is rooted in the work that was done with the Revised Version (RV). In 1870, an invitation was extended to American religious leaders for scholars to work on the Revised Version project. A year later, 30 scholars were chosen by Phillip Schaff. These scholars began work in 1872. In 1901, The American Standard Version (ASV) was published. It has earned the reputation of being a rock solid translation of the original Hebrew and Greek texts.

King James Version (KJV)In 1604, 85 years after Tyndale's work, King James I authorized a new translation of the whole Bible for use by the Church of England. The result was the King James Version, or KJV, of 1611: a work of profound gravity, careful scholarship, and surpassing literary quality that has influenced English language and literature for hundreds of years, has been preached from thousands of pulpits, has been quoted by countless writers, and has led millions to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. The King James Version is still the source from which most literal English translations derive their inspiration.

Darby TranslationDarby's New Translation was published in 1871 in response to the increased need for new and accurate English translations of the Bible. A tireless minister to the Brethren assemblies of England and the European Continent, John Nelson Darby had previously translated the Bible into German and French to meet the needs of assemblies there. His stated purpose was 'not to offer to the man of letters a learned work, but rather to provide the simple and unlearned reader with as accurate a translation as possible.'

Bible in Basic EnglishThe Bible In Basic English (BBE) is a translation of the Bible into Basic English. The BBE was translated by Professor S. H. Hooke using the standard 850 Basic English words. 100 words that were helpful to understand poetry were added along with 50 "Bible" words. The New Testament was released in 1941 and the Old Testament was released in 1949.

Jerusalem Bible (JB)This is a version prepared by Roman Catholic scholars in Great Britain, under the general editorship of Alexander Jones of Christ's College, Liverpool, assisted by twenty-seven colleagues. (1) It is notable as being the first English version to be done by Roman Catholics on the basis of the Greek and Hebrew texts rather than upon the Latin Vulgate. The Jerusalem Bible derives its name and its character from an earlier French version, called La Bible de Jérusalem. The Editor’s Foreword explains that the idea of the English Jerusalem Bible was to turn the French version, together with all of its annotations, (2) into English, with constant reference to the Hebrew and Greek.

International Standard Version (ISV)The International Standard Version (ISV) is a totally new work translated directly from the original languages of Scripture and derived from no other English translation. The ISV takes advantage not only of the most ancient manuscripts available, but also of the most recent archaeological discoveries. The translators of the ISV have selected English equivalent words that most closely reflect the meaning of the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. The goal of the ISV, therefore, has been both accuracy and excellence in communication.

Douay-Rheims VersionThe Douay-Rheims Version of the Bible was derived from the Latin Vulgate Bible. It was first published in 1609 AD by the English college for the Catholic church. It was revised and diligently compared with the Latin Vulgate by Bishop Richard Challoner in 1749-1752 AD.

Tyndale BibleWilliam Tyndale's translation of the Bible into Early Modern English is a seminal work that has greatly impacted and shaped English translations of the Holy Scriptures. This influential translation is regarded as a major source for the King James Bible, the Geneva Bible and the Douay-Rheims Bible. The Tyndale Bible contains some of the best known phrases of the Bible including 'salt of the earth,' 'let there be light,' 'a law unto themselves,' and 'my brother's keeper' which have become staples of the English language and Bible translations.

Wycliffe BibleThis translation of the Bible into Middle English is one of the oldest translations of the Bible into English. The translation was completed over a period of years between 1382-1395. Well known as a precursor to theTyndale Bible and the King James Version, the Wycliffe Bible was very popular in its day. The English state and the Roman Catholic Church took drastic steps to suppress the Wycliffe Bible, circulating pamphlets critical of it and enacting some of the severest religious censorship laws. The translation itself can be difficult for modern readers because current spelling and grammatical conventions have changed drastically from those of Middle English.

Weymouth New Testament (WNT)The New Testament in Modern Speech: an idiomatic translation into everyday English from the text of The Resultant Greek Testament by Richard Francis Weymouth; edited and partly revised by Ernest Hampden-Cook, 1903. This version was designed chiefly "to furnish a succinct and compressed running commentary (not doctrinal) to be used side by side with traditional versions of the Bible."

Good News TranslationThis is the 1992 edition of the Good News Bible, commonly called the Good News Translation in America. New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)This Bible translation is a contemporary revision of the 1952 Revised Standard Version, which was in turn based on the American Standard Version of 1901. The translators of the New Revised Standard Version, or NRSV, published in 1990, took into account the recent discovery of still older biblical manuscripts that were not available to the translators of the RSV. They also examined linguistic features of the text in more depth and considered changes in English usage. The translators’ desire was to preserve what is best in previous English translations while producing a new one of high quality and enhanced accuracy.

Modern English Version (MEV)The Modern English Version (MEV) is a translation of the Textus Receptus and the Jacob ben Hayyim edition of the Masoretic Text, using the King James Version as the base manuscript. The MEV is a literal translation. It is also often referred to as a formal correspondence translation. The Committee on Bible Translation began their work on the MEV in 2005 and completed it in 2013. The goal was to translate Scripture accurately without loss, change, compromise, embellishments, or distortions of the meaning of the original text.

The REB uses UK spelling and punctuation, and is excellent for public reading. This edition comprises the Old Testament, the Apocrypha, and New Testament.

Wuest – The New Testament: An Expanded TranslationKenneth Samuel Wuest (1893–1962), a noted New Testament Greek scholar of the mid-twentieth century, was a beloved professor of New Testament Greek at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and published over a dozen books on the New Testament. His Expanded Translation of the New Testament is treasured by those who appreciate the nuances of the Hellenistic Greek language (or Koine Greek), a language which its author knew and loved so well.

Tree of Life Version (TLV)The Tree of Life Version (TLV) is a new Bible translation, produced by the Messianic Jewish Family Bible Society, which highlights the rich Hebrew roots of the Christian faith by restoring the Jewish order of the books of the Old Testament, the Jewish name of the Messiah, Yeshua, reverence for the four-letter unspoken name of God, Hebrew transliterated terms, such as shalom, shofar, and shabbat, a few key names, such as Miriam for Mary, and more. Taking a committee approach, the translation team carefully translated the Greek and Hebrew to render a translation that is accurate, readable, reverential, and true to the worldview that brings together Jewish and Gentile people in Messiah, Yeshua.

The Living Bible (TLB)The Living Bible is Kenneth Taylor's interpretive paraphrase of the Bible. Taylor created this paraphrase as a help for those who wanted to read the Bible to children without having to stop and explain many things. In a 1979 interview published in Christianity Today he explained that the version began in the context of his efforts to explain the biblical text to his own children during family devotions.

“Who then can ever keep Christ’s love from us? When we have trouble or calamity, when we are hunted down or destroyed, is it because he doesn’t love us anymore? And if we are hungry or penniless or in danger or threatened with death, has God deserted us?
No, for the Scriptures tell us that for his sake we must be ready to face death at every moment of the day–we are like sheep awaiting slaughter; but despite all this, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ who loved us enough to die for us. For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels won’t, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, or where we are–high above the sky, or in the deepest ocean–nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us.”

New Century Version (NCV)Just as the New Testament was originally written in the simple Greek of everyday life, the New Century Version translates the Scriptures in familiar, everyday words of our times. Two basic premises guided the translation process: faithfulness to the original manuscripts, and the use of language clear enough for anyone to read the Bible and understand it for himself.

“Can anything separate us from the love Christ has for us? Can troubles or problems or sufferings or hunger or nakedness or danger or violent death? As it is written in the Scriptures: “For you we are in danger of death all the time. People think we are worth no more than sheep to be killed.” (Psalm 44:22) But in all these things we are completely victorious through God who showed his love for us.
